The 2015 premiere of sailing action came in the form of the year’s first Laser 4.7 qualifying race. The race took place in front of the premises of the Cyprus Sports Organisation Sailing Centre in Limassol.
Weather conditions varied, once again proving Cyprus’ reputation as a “Sailing Haven” and a site with all the credentials to become an international sailing destination.
Athletes under the age of 18 are entitled to participate in the Laser 4.7 category. It was joined by 28 athletes from Nautical Clubs across Cyprus, while the competitive level improved significantly.
The Limassol Nautical Club led the way with three athletes ranking in the first five. Adamantios Diamantis of the Limassol Nautical Club was the overall winner, having fought a hard battle against fellow LNC athlete Panayiotis Iordanou and the Famagusta Nautical Club’s Onisiforos Neophytou, who was awarded as the best teenage athlete by the Olympic Committee. Panayiotis Iordanou came second and Panayiotis Pantelas of the Kyrenia Nautical Club came third.
