Vasilis Iliopoulos

Sailing Coach

Vasilis has been a Sailing coach at the LNC since January 2016. Before that he worked as a sailing for several Clubs in Greece (Alexandoupoli, Thessaloniki, Vouliagmenis and more). Vasilis’ teams have had many successes both on a National and International level under the Optimist, Laser, Europe, Mistral 420, 470, 49er and Finn categories.

Vasilis has great experience in coaching mainly from Argentinian and English schools (world leading for for Optimist and second at Laser).

He has also worked as a Physical Education teacher in Primary and Secondary education in different Schools in Greece and as a Personal trainer in a range of gyms in Thessaloniki.

As an athlete, Vasilis was a Pan-Hellenic winner at Optimist, Laser and Finn starting at 14 years of age. Until 1994 Vasilis was part the National Team of Greece. He was also the winner of the Balkan races under the Laser category (Men and Youth) and marked significant successes at the Olympic Weeks held in 1989 and 1989, the European Championship held in 1989 and he also took part in 3 World Championships, 5 European Championships and multiple International Races under the Finn and Laser Categories.

As a personal motto, Vasilis says:

I believe that through the effort, with concentration, love for the sport and joy, you can get to the the desired result. To achieve this you need be organised, systematic and follow a plan! Consistency and order will yield results without spoiling the magic of the sport!!! Children will become a "team" and learn to "dream" and set goals! Children will love the sea and build friendships; we just need to show them the way!
